Identification parade ordered in Jaffna HR official assault incident

The Jaffna Magistrate Mr.R.T.Viknarajah Tuesday ordered for an
identification parade on Wednesday in connection with the alleged assault
on Mr.Ruwan Chandrasekara and his associate Mr.S.Feroz of the Jaffna
regional office of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) by a
group of Jaffna policemen, legal sources said.
Jaffna Magistrate made this order on a report filed by Colombo Police
Headquarters official Mr.A.Pathmasiri Munasinghe after a top-level
investigation into the alleged assault following representation made by the
Chairperson of the HRCSL in Colombo, the sources said. The Magistrate further ordered the Jaffna district Senior Superintendent of
Police S.Wanaguru to bring all 46 policemen who were on duty on the day of
alleged assault on HR official in the Jaffna Police Station that took on
September 27th in a covered vehicle to court and hand over them to prison
officials, the sources said. The court also noticed Mr.Ruwan Chandrasekara, Jaffna regional co-ordinator
of HRCSL to be present Wednesday to identify those policemen who allegedly
assaulted him and his associate when they went to police station to inquire
about a arrested youth, the sources said.
