Mannar, Vavuniya to observe general shutdown

NorthEast Civil Society Forums appealed to businesses and residents fo districts of Vavuniya and Mannar to observe general shutdown Thursday in protest against the killings of two innocent Tamil youths in
Valvettithurai in Jaffna, and assaults on members of public including one
Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian during
the Heroes Day celebrations, civil sources said.
Schools, government and provincial council offices and business
establishments will be closed down. Transport services will also come to a
halt, according to organizers of the general shut down. Residents have been requested to stay in their houses during the general shut
down. The Civil Society Forums appealed to the residents and businesses to lend their full support to make the protest a success, sources said.
