Vanni bank awards prizes to thrifty children

Officers of the Social Economic Development (SED) bank awarded prizes for 127 children who managed to save more than Rs 2000/- in their piggy banks, as part of the bank's "Future charm" savings project in an event held at the Pradeshya Sabha building in Puthukkudiyiruppu Mullaitivu district at 10.30 a.m. Thursday.
Head of the SED bank, P Sriskandarajah, presided the event. Vanni district parliamentarian, S Kanagaratnam lit the common flame. Fr James Pathinathar, Mullitivu region Education Commissioner, P. Ariyaratnam, Head of Tamileelam Finance Wing, A. Athavan and TRO Director M Moorthy lit the ceremonial lamp at the beginning of the event. Head of Mullaitivu LTTE Political Wing, S Muhunthan, hoisted the Tamileelam flag. The SED bank as part of its community involvement had its officers distribute piggy banks to the children of Mullaitivu, Udayarkattu, Visvamadu and Puthukkudiyiruppu to nurture the habit of saving. The event was attended by a large number of Mullaitivu residents to show support to the local children's effort to grow into valued citizens of the community. Prizes were also awarded to pre-school teachers who were identified as motivators for the children who were selected as winners.
