Eleven additional Tamil medium candidates were admitted to the Law College in Colombo Friday following the intervention of the Supreme Court after Tamil students filed Fundamental Rights application citing discriminatory procedures in admissions, legal sources said. Only one Tamil medium candidate was allowed to enter the college based on the results released in 1995 entrance examination held by the Law College, sources said.
The Supreme Court after hearing the petitions, directed the Law College to reassess the answer scripts of all Tamil medium candidates. The Law College after reassessment of answer scripts held an oral examination for those Tamil medium candidates who obtained over 60 marks in the written examination. The marks they obtained in oral examination were later added to the cutout marks they received in the written examination. On that basis eleven more Tamil medium candidates were found qualified to enter the Law College for the current academic year, sources said.
