LTTE releases Sri Lankan Policeman

The Liberation Tigers on Saturday handed over the Sri Lankan Policeman, B.W.Bopetigoda, who was held in LTTE custody since October 2005. The realease was made following a request for goodwill-gesture from the outgoing Head of SLMM Major General Ulf Henricsson, LTTE sources in Kilinochchi said.

The policeman was handed over to Major General Ulf Henricsson by S. Puleedevan, director of LTTE's peace secretariat, Saturday morning.

On Friday, after meeting LTTE's Political Head Mr. S. P. Thamilchelvan, Ulf Henricsson told media in Kilinochchi that the talks with the LTTE was constructive, although there was no resolution. He was carrying a message back to the facilitators, he said.

"It has been rather challenging," Henricsson told media about his stay in Sri Lanka adding that his stay in the island was interesting, easy and nice.

"I leave the country now, and regret the situation in which we are now," he told reporters.

Henricsson has been serving as Head of Sri Lanka Mission since April 01 this year, after Brigadier Hagrup Haukland left Sri Lanka.
