SLA meets stiff resistance in Jaffna offensive

Twenty two Sri Lanka Army troopers were killed and 113 injured when LTTE retaliated advancing SLA troopers towards the LTTE territory from SLA Muhamalai Defence Line Wednesday, military sources in Colombo said. Major clashes between Liberation Tigers and Sri Lanka Security forces took place in Thenmarachy Forward Defence Lines (FDLs) and seas along littoral villages from Kilali to Sangupiddy along Jaffna lagoon from early morning Wednesday.
Commenting on the Jaffna offensive, a military official who did not wish to be named, put the casualty figures to be higher than 22. Liberation Tigers Military Spokesman is yet to disclose the details of the LTTE retaliation. Meanwhile, Palaly military command has been broadcasting via the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) radio that curfew is in effect in Thenmaradchy from 8:15 a.m. Wednesday till 5:00 a.m. Thursday. Villages of Allarai, Kachchai, Veerakerni, Thanankillapu, Mirusuvil, Meesalai South, Kovilakandy, and Maravanpulo which are located either along the SLA FDL or adjoining the FDLs are affected by the curfew, residents said.
