The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) stationed at Thenmaradchy Forward Defence Lines (FDL) in Muhamalai and adjoining areas unleashed a barrage of artillery fire and Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) shells towards Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) held areas Thursday night. The artillery fire continued throughout Friday until dusk, sources in Thenmaradchy said.
Inspite of the intensified attack by the SLA, the SLA and the Libration Tigers avoided direct confrontations, sources said. SLA forces posted along the coast of the peninsula too continued to launch artillery and MBRL fire towards LTTE held areas Friday. Areas around the Jaffna lagoon including Pooneryn and other places were also subjected SLA attacks. Meanwhile, heavy military hardware and additional troops are being continually being moved to the FDL positions from SLA bases including Palaly.
