Two transformers of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) were destroyed Sunday early morning in a blast at Alawathugoda in Kandy district. Electricity supply to about five hundred houses was cut off due to the blast, CEB sources said.

The police said large amount of explosives were used to cause the blast and suspected sabotage.

The electricity supply to the area will not be resumed until a government analyst inspects the site and issues a report, CEB sources said.
