2 Jaffna youths, one Up-Country youth abducted in Colombo

Three Tamil youths, two of them from of Jaffna and one from Badulla were abducted on Saturday from their lodges located along Kathiresan Street in Fort area in Colombo by unidentified armed men. The two youths from Jaffna had been staying in Colombo to go abroad and the upcountry Tamil youth had been a betel vendor.
The victims were Paramanathan Thushyanthan of Thellipazhai, and K.Vaseeharan of Jaffna, according to complaints lodged with the Fort Police by their relatives. Meanwhile the matter has been brought to the notice of Colombo district Upcountry peoples Front (UPF) parliamentarian P.Radhakrishnan. Media sources quoted residents bringing to the notice of parliamentarian Radhakrishnan that they had seen some armed men in civil moving along Kathireasan Street Sunday morning. They are reported to have threatened some relatives of the abductees showing weapons in colloquial Tamil and in Sinhalese that they would not allow "Tiger Tamils" to stay here and would "eliminate" them. Mr.Radhakrishnan has promised the relatives of the victims to take up this matter with the high authorities In the meantime whereabouts of Selvathurai Selvakumar who was abducted Thursday in Wellawatte is not known. But, a trader Viswanathan abducted on Friday was released and returned home, according to his relatives.
