Woman shot dead, youth beheaded in Jaffna

Unidentified armed men shot and killed a middle-aged woman in Aiyanaarkoayiladi in Kodikaamam Saturday early morning. Meanwhile, villagers in Ma'ndaan Karaveddi located a headless body of a youth, who was abducted the previous day, with severe torture wounds and hands and body tied.

The female victim, 49-year-old Nadarajah Susheela, was at her house with her aunt in Kodikaamam in Thenmaraadchi when she was shot. The body was recovered by Kodikaamam police.

Kodikaamam police handed over the body to the Jaffna teaching Hospital Saturday morning for postmortem examinations.

The youth was identified as 20-year-old Rasiah Laxahan, from Rajakiraamam village in Karaveddi West in Vadamaraadchi area.

Armed men who arrived in a white van had abducted Laxahan from his home Thursday night.

The mode of Youth’s killing mirrored the recent slaying of a man in Kappoothu, Sarasaalai.

Alex Rajah, Additional magistrate for Point Pedro area visited the scene Friday and conducted preliminary investigations.

The body was transported to Point Pedro base hospital and after post mortem examination the youth’s body was handed over to the relatives Saturday.
