2 Tamil civilians shot dead in Batticaloa

Unidentified armed men shot and killed Tuesday night two Tamil civilians in two separate shootings, in Vaakarai and Vavu’natheevu police divisions in Batticaloa district.

The victim in the first shooting which took place in Puchchaangkea’ni beach area in Vaakarai police division Wednesday around 9:00 p.m was identified as Gnanakumar Mohanathas, 32.

Police handed the body over to the victim’s relatives after post mortem examination was held in Vaakarai hospital.

The victim killed in Vavu’natheevu police division Wednesday around 11:00 p.m was indentified as Periyathamby Muthupillai, 45, the father of four children and a resident of Vavu’natheevu.

The killers had called Muthupillai out of his house and opened fire on him.

Post mortem examination was held on the victim’s body in Batticaloa Teaching Hospital after which it was handed over to the relatives.
