NEPC to open regional offices

The North East Provincial Council (NEPC) will open three regional offices to improve its services to the people of the province, said Maj.Gen. (ret) Asoka Jayawardana, the Governor of the province, addressing a special conference this morning at his office in Colombo.

He also said that the Sri Lankan Navy has recommended to the Ministry of Defence that fisherman in the province can be allowed to use 12 horsepower (HP) outboard motors (OBM) for their boats. (earlier only 8 HP OBMs were permitted).

The Governor told officials that the council's regional office for Jaffna will be opened on February 1.

The NEPC's regional office for the Batticaloa and Ampara districts will function from Kalmunai and the one for the Vanni districts will be opened in Mannar town, he added

All the government agents, except the Jaffna GA, attended the conference.

The Governor advised them to undertake all development work in their districts in consultation with the Sri Lanka Army (SLA).

Officers from the Sri Lankan security forces, the NEPC's chief secretary and the secretaries of the NEPC ministries also took part in the Governor's conference.
