Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in Jaffna strengthened security arrangements in and around Jaffna town Friday due to the presence of V. Anandasangari, the leader of the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) and Minister Douglas Devananda in Jaffna and in view of the Industrial Exhibition that is to take place in Jaffna town from Saturday until Monday, organized by Government Commercial sector in Colombo, sources in Jaffna said.

SLA has barred all vehicles from using the main road in Veampadi as the said exhibition is to take place in Vembadi Girls’ High School.

People are only allowed to go on foot along this road.

People and vehicles entering Jaffna town through the roads including Kandy Road, Main Street, Jaffna-Point Pedro Road, Jaffna-Kaangkeasanthu’rai Road and Jaffna-Palaali Road are being subjected to thorough checks by SLA soldiers.

Motor cyclists were checked and interrogated, and people travelling along the above roads were made to wait long time before they were allowed in.

The exhibition is conducted with the view of introducing new commercial items to the market, and to create commercial interaction with the public in Jaffna peninsula, according to the organizers.
