Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) arrested Friday twelve youths fleeing war in Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) held Vadamaraadchi East in a boat which was washed ashore on Point Pedro coast in Vadamaraadchi, sources in Point Pedro said. SLN handed over the arrestees to Point Pedro police who produced them in Point Pedro court Monday.

The arrested youths had to embarked on the dangerous journey in order to escape the continuing artillery barrage and aerial bombings on LTTE held areas by Sri Lanka government, the sources said.

Point Pedro magistrate directed the police to place them in the Special Rehabilitation Camp (SRC) in Koappaay.

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) does not allow relatives or others to visit the youths placed in Koappaay SRC.

Around 165 persons belonging to 55 families who had fled from war in boats have been already placed in Koappaay SRC.
