The Sri Lankan Police said that a 20 year old woman who was waiting at a bus stop in Anuradhapura in the north central province was kidnapped and raped by men, including two members of the Sri Lankan Army personnel, yesterday around 9 p.m.
The victim, a resident of Nelumbewa, 12 miles south of Anuradhapura, was abducted by men who had come in a van, while she was waiting for a night bus to go to Colombo, the police said. They said the van was located, on information given by passengers at the bus stop, two hours after the incident took place. The girl was found unconscious in the van. She has been admitted at the Anuradhapura hospital. Two men, including the driver of the van, have been arrested, the police said. Initial inquiries have revealed the involvement of two soldiers from the Saliyapura SLA camp, about 3 miles north of Anuradhapura, the police added. The police said that they are searching for two others who are believed to be involved in the abduction and rape of the woman.
