7 SLA personnel arrested for allegedly aiding LTTE

Seven officers of the Sri Lanka Army including two in the rank of
Major were arrested by the intelligence officials of the Prevention of
Terrorism Unit Wednesday on a report that they had been assisting the
LTTE in the war time by collecting materials and other items,
according to media reports that quoted SL Military Spokesman Udaya
Nanayakkara.
The arrested SLA officials are being detained in the
office of the Terrorist Investigation Unit in Colombo and are being
interrogated. Meanwhile the wife of a Lieutenant Colonel of the Sri Lanka Army and
three other suspects who were taken into custody over alleged
involvements in aiding an LTTE cadre engaged in covert warfare, according to media reports. The suspects Kareema Hamid, Ramasamy Prabhakaran, Wellahelige
Dharmasiri and Shanmugam Ramadas were produced before Mt. Lavinia
Additional Magistrate Darshika Wimalasiri. The suspects were referred
to detention on the orders of the Defence Secretary following a
submission by the Colombo Crimes Division to court, legal sources
said.
