The recently resettled people in Vanni were forced to remain indoors Wednesday as Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers, Special Task Force (STF) commandos, Sri Lanka police and the President’s Special Security Force soldiers took control of A9 road and the main streets in the districts of Ki’linochchi and Mullaiththeevu as a part of security measures related to the Cabinet meeting held by President Rajapakasa in Ki’linochchi Wednesday, sources in Vanni said.
Meanwhile, the key officials of government departments summoned urgently to Ki’linochchi had to spend Tuesday night in school classrooms as there was no place for them to lodge in Vanni. There were no places in Ki’linochchi where they could find lodgings and no arrangement had been made to provide them accommodation. Thousands of personnel from the above mentioned armed forces of Sri Lanka were posted along A9 road within very short distances and were engaged in road checks. The resettled people in Vanni had to remain in their makeshift dwellings as the armed forces did not permit any of them to attend to their daily activities or to enter Ki’linochchi town, particularly to Ira’naimadu area where the Cabinet meeting was held.
