The sixth year anniversary of the tsunami remembrance event was held in different parts of Jaffna district, including Vadamaraadchi and Vadamaraadchi east independent of the Colombo-centric organized celebrations, civil society sources in Jaffna said. Uduththu'rai burial grounds in Vadamaraadchi east contained majority of tsunami burials, and grieving relatives held an emotional ceremony organized by the Uduththu'rai Fisheries Union at that site.
Representatives of the Fisheries Union, members of the EPDP party, local commanders of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and large number of local residents participated in the Uduththu'rai memorial event. Sri Lanka military command allowed the public to attend to the memorial symbols erected at the areas including Vettilaikkear'i which has been demarcated as high security zone (HSZ), and where resettlement is barred by Colombo. Meanwhile, memorial ceremonies were also conducted at the area in Vadama'raadchi East where 72 civilians perished. Residents of Ma'nalkaadu village participated in large numbers at the prayers held at the St.Anthony's Church at 7:00 a.m. Reverend Father Wesley Antony and Rev.
