[TamilNet, Monday, 21 February 2011, 12:52 GMT]
Sri Lanka Police have directed all residents in Colombo and its suburbs to register their details with the respective police stations without delay. Residents in Grandpass area have been ordered to furnish the names of their relatives and visitors staying with them in the nearby police stations, according to reports from Colombo.

Residents who underwent security restriction during war time express fear over this new development at a time when peace and normalcy prevail.

Police personnel check every vehicle including motor bikes and three wheelers entering Colombo town causing immense inconvenience to passengers and public and private sector employees, sources in Colombo said.

Every house in Mattakuli area was checked by police teams two days ago and names of inmates were collected.

Six months earlier police conducted a search operation in every house in the Tamil dominated Wellawatte, Kotahena, Naharenpitya and Soysapura.
