USA sets new stage for Tamil struggle

[TamilNet, Friday, 25 September 2015, 18:42 GMT]
Tamils have to understand that there is a ‘profound’ logic in the US resolution tabled at Geneva on Thursday, ultimately settling for prodding Eezham Tamils into ‘domestic’ investigation of ‘Sri Lanka’, just as the USA had set the stage for the genocidal war and the barbed-wire camps. International investigation for genuine reconciliation comes only when a war is over. But the war on the nation of Eezham Tamils is not yet over. It has only entered into another stage is what the tabled resolution implies. The blessing in disguise is that Tamils all over the world could now clearly identify the main villains and their henchmen. Eezham Tamils were long lacking this perception, commented Tamil activists for alternative politics in the island.

The final draft of the US resolution on ‘Sri Lanka’ was tabled at the 30th session of the UNHRC on Thursday evening.

“Today the United States, Sri Lanka, and our partners tabled a resolution at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva,” US Secretary of State John Kerry said in a statement on Thursday adding that the “Sri Lankan government’s decision to join as a co-sponsor paves the way for all of us to work together [...]”

A motion to extend the time limit to table the resolution up to 6 pm on Thursday was passed at the session by mid noon, indicating tough bargains.

The draft now makes it optional for Colombo to have any shade of international involvement in the investigation.

“The draft resolution, which is likely to pass unanimously next week, refers to the importance of having foreign experts involved in a potential investigation, but does not make the condition mandatory,” said Asian Times on Friday.

“Colombo has lobbied successfully for a watering-down of an earlier motion demanding foreign involvement in any probe into human rights abuses during the 37-year war,” the news report further said.

The USA was also successful in training a section of the TNA in the use of powerful microscopes, for the TNA has discovered virtues in the draft resolution.

“We are of the view that the draft provides a constructive starting point for what will inevitably be a long road to reconciliation," the TNA was cited commenting on the draft.

The TNA also didn’t fail to come out with a note of credit that the draft was a “product of a difficult consensus.”

The news reports didn’t specify who the TNA was.

Mr. M.A. Sumanthiran is known for camping at Geneva.

Meanwhile what price has been paid to Washington and New Delhi by genocidal Colombo for the “difficult consensus” is the question coming from political observers.
