The body of a young man, with hands and legs tied, was found in a well belonging to Puttralai Sithivinayagar Temple, in Pt.Pedro on the Jaffna peninsula, yesterday, said police sources.

The police recovered the body with the help of local residents and handed it over to the Hospital.

The body was identified as that of Kanapathipillai Pathmanathan, 27, of Puloli.

Sources said the man had been beaten and there were injuries on his head.

The man was seen at the temple, talking to two of his friends, on Friday evening, according to witnesses.

His relatives went in search of him yesterday morning, as he had not returned home on Friday.

Local residents found the body in the well yesterday morning, and his bicycle and identity card near the well.

The coroner, P. Supramanium conducted an inquest ordered the police to hand the body to relatives.

Meanwhile a body, with gun-shot injuries, washed ashore at Kytes yesterday. The Police said they suspect the body was that of an LTTE member.

The Police handed the body to Jaffna hospital yesterday evening.
