Security sources in the Vanni said that the bodies of 27 Liberation Tigers, recovered by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in the Ampakamam area, were handed to the ICRC this morning at Mankulam.

SLA sources said 69 Liberation Tigers were killed in the two days of fighting in Ampakamam and Oddusuddan areas, east of Mankulam.

The spokesman for the ICRC, Harsha Gunawardene, said the bodies were handed over to the LTTE this afternoon.

He said 26 of them were reported killed in the Olumadu area and one in Weli Oya.

Army sources said 11 SLA soldiers were killed and 43 wounded in the fighting.

The wounded soldiers have been admitted to Anuradhapura and Colombo hospitals said the sources.

According to reports from the war fronts, the two days fighting had eased today and the war fronts were silent except for occasional artillery fire from both sides.
