SLA strips election posters

The Sri Lankan Army cordoned and searched the Kovilkandy and Navatkuli area in Jaffna early this morning. All males between the age of 12 and 40 were taken to Navakuli church where they were screened.

The operation went on until 12 noon. Details of those who were detained were not available.

Meanwhile Sri Lankan Army removed all election posters in Kondavil North, put up by Tamil groups contesting the forthcoming local government elections in the Jaffna peninsula.

The army started removing the posters last night, said sources in Jaffna. However the motive for this was not clear they said.
