Peace front to be formed in south

The United Socialist Party (USP) Sunday announced that it has already taken steps to form a united front comprising political parties in the south, to canvass support for the current peace process. "We met LTTE Jaffna district political head Mr.Ilamparuthi Saturday and Sunday. We have assured the LTTE that our party will not be an obstacle to the liberation of Tamil people in this country," said Mr. Siritunge Jayasiri, General Secretary of the USP at a press briefing held Sunday afternoon around 3 p.m. in Jaffna Town Hall.
Jaffna district organiser of the USP Mr.S.Thevathasan also participated in the press briefing. Mr. Jayasiri said further "I have already taken steps to meet Dr. Wickremabahu Karunaratne of the New Left Front (NLF) and Mr.Vasudeva Nanayakara of United Left Front regarding the formation of a united Peace Front, to fight against chauvinists elements in the south." "My party members have already received death threats from Sinhala hardliners like Sihala Urumaya in the South," he said. He added that his party delegation is to meet the leaders of the Tamil National Alliance and the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress.
