LTTE-TNA agree to take forward peace process

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and the Tamil National Alliance Friday agreed to work jointly to take forward the present peace process strengthening the relationship between Tamils and Muslims, TNA sources said.
The discussion between the LTTE and TNA was held Friday at the Killinochchi LTTE political secretariat. LTTE theoretician Mr. Anton Balasingham and LTTE political head Mr.S.P.Thamilselvan participated in the discussion with
fourteen TNA parliamentarians led by its parliamentary group leader Mr.R.Sampanthan and the leader of the Eelam Peoples Revolutionary Liberation Front Mr.Suresh Premachandran, sources said. Mr. Balasingham briefed the TNA parliamentarians about the outcome of peace talks held earlier between the LTTE and GOSL. He pointed out the drawbacks and the progress made in the peace talks, sources said. The question of Tamil political prisoners detained at Kalutara prison under the Prevention of Terrorism Act was discussed in detail. The matter is to be discussed with the former secretary general of Amnesty International Mr. Ian Martin when he visits Colombo next week, TNA sources said.
