16-year-old Karan Vaikunthavasan, attending A/L at Uruththirapuram School, has stated that he was recruited with the promise that he could become an officer in the SL military without having to go through the step of a soldier. Students between 12-14 years are being enlisted as Junior Cadets while students at the age of 14-20 are being recruited for Senior Cadetting. The so-called National Cadet Corps Training Centre is situated in Rantembe area of Victoria Randenigala and Rantembe wildlife sanctuary in Kandy district, about 77 Kilometers from Kandy.
