One youth killed, two SLA troopers seriously injured in Vavuniya

Unidentified persons triggered a claymore device Sunday at Maharambaikulam in Vavuniya seriously injuring two Sri Lanka Army (SLA) troopers, Vavuniya police said. The police also claimed that a youth who is said to have triggered the claymore device died when a hand grenade he had on him exploded after having escaped from the site of the claymore attack.

Three Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers were killed when a civilian vehicle which the troopers at Varikkuddiyar SLA camp have comandeered to transport soldiers was hit by a claymore mine blast at Thaddankulam, about 15 km. west of Vavuniya, around 8:30 a.m., Saturday. A civilian was killed and another injured in the blast, sources said.

The claymore was placed in front of a canteen run by the SLA, inside military high security zone, sources said. The Uduvil camp serves as the nerve center for SLA's intelligence operation in Jaffna district.

Three Tamils shot dead in Trincomalee

Three civilians were found shot dead in Trincomalee Friday night. Their bodies were found Saturday morning with gunshot injuries, one at Chelvanayakapuram, about 2 km north of eastern port town and the other two at Allesgarden, where two Sri Lanka Navy sailors were wounded in a claymore attack Saturday. Uppuveli Police, conducting investigations into the killings said the victims, between the ages 19 and 30, were Tamils.

Two SLN sailors injured in claymore ambush in Trincomalee

0Two Agriculture Department officials were killed and 2 wounded Friday morning when a vehicle belonging to the department, transporting fruit plants, was hit by a Sri Lankan Deep Penetration Unit Claymore mine blast around 8:45 in Nedunkerni, 37 km northeast of Vavuniya. One of the two Claymore mines, triggered by the DPU attackers, exploded. Sri Lanka Army launched an artillery attack, firing around 25 shells towards the attack site, after the Claymore explosion.
