Thu'nukkaay DS killed in DPU attack

The Divisional Secretary (AGA) of Thu'nukkaay division of Mullaiththeevu district was killed in a Claymore attack carried out by the Deep Penetration Unit (DPU) of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA), Tamileelam Police officials in Mullaiththeevu told media. The DS, Mr. N. Nanthakumar, 36, father of three-month-old baby girl, was killed on the spot in the attack which was reported at 4:50 p.m. Sunday.

Attack on SLA, after thorough search operation in Jaffna

A Sri Lanka Army soldier was killed and another seriously injured following an ambush carried out on SLA soldiers returning to Manthikai base in Vadamaraadchi, Jaffna, after completing a day-long search operation in Thunnaalai area Friday night. The SLA has launched another cordon and search operation Saturday morning, blocking civilian movement in Thunnaalai and Nelliyadi areas, residents there said. Thunnaalai has been subjected to record high search operations in the Jaffna peninsula so far this year.

3 policemen killed in Claymore attack in Batticaloa

A Claymore device hidden in the thickets close to the place where policemen from Aayithiyamalai police station go for bath was activated by unknown men, the police added.

SLAF airstrike kills 4 Tamil civilians, 10 wounded

Three civilians were killed on the spot Sunday morning when Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) bombed a civilian settlement of Internally Displaced Persons in Puthukkudiyiruppu in Mullaiththteevu district. Another civilian succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. 10 civilians, including a pregnant mother, were wounded in the air attack, Tamileelam Police said. Puthukkudiyiruppu Central College, located 100 meters away from the IDP settlement, zonal office of education, and temples in the vicinity have sustained damage in the SLAF attack. Tension prevails in the town as shrapnels from the air-blasts of the bombs were spread around the area.

At least 20 Tamil students studying at the University of Moratuwa, transferred by the Sri Lankan police to Bambalapitiya, security-checked and cleared to travel to their native places after the Claymore attack that took place in the morning, were arrested by the Sri Lanka Army at Medawachchiya and at Iraddaip Periyaku'lam in Vavuniyaa Friday night. More than 30 Tamil students are detained by the Sri Lankan forces after the attack in Katubedda.

The jeep in which the injured police personnel were traveling was damaged in the explosion, reports said.

Police and SLA soldiers in large numbers have been guarding all roads lead to the area surrounding the East Chief Secretariat complex where the Assembly Hall of the EPC is located along the Inner Harbour Road which leads to the Sri Lanka Naval Headquarters, sources from east port town said. The East Chief Secretariat complex was used earlier as the North East Chief Secretariat before the de-merger of two provinces.
