Trinco residents receive free medical help

The World Medical Team (WMT) comprising sixty-one medical specialists from
United States of America, Holland and Nigeria are conducting an eight-day
free medical service in Trincomalee since September 29 at American Mission
hall which is located at Uppuveli about two km north of Trincomalee town,

In the first five days about thirteen thousand people from all areas of the Trincomalee district and from all communities have been treated WMT sources
said. World Medical Team leader Mr. Phil Starr said medial specialists are using their vacation to serve the needy in the third world. Several agencies are helping us to implement this free medical service
project, which is estimated to cost about 150,000 US Dollars, Mr. Phil
Starr said. "We started the free medical service first in Nepal in 1992 with twelve doctors. We treated about forty thousand people, majority of them were
Bhutanese refugees. We have conducted the free medical service in countries
Uganda, Haiti, Cambodia, Bulgaria and Africa," said Mr.Tarr.
