Trinco TRO honors Tamil, Sinhala, Muslim pre-school teachers

Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) in Trincomalee made history Monday honoring sixty pre-school teachers of all communities -Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim- under one roof at an event held in connection
with the World Teachers' Day at Trincomalee New Silver Star
Hotel.

Pre -School Education Development Council (PSEDC), a constituent of the TRO
in Trincomalee organized this function . Simultaneous translation was provided to speeches made in Tamil and
Sinhalese. This was first time in the Trincomalee district pre-school teachers were honored on the World Teachers' Day, said
Assistant Director of Education (Pre-School) Mr.S.Thavanathan at the event participating as the chief guest. TRO Trincomalee district project officer Mr.V.Kalaivarnan presided. Mr.Thavanathan inaugurated the event by lighting the traditional oil lamp.
Pre-school teachers of all ethnic groups from the education zones of Trincomalee and Kantalai participated. Mr.Thavanathan said pre-school teachers who have been given the task of
moulding a new generation with noble qualities are a neglected lot in the
country. "They have not been provided with a fixed salary scale and other
benefits enjoyed other categories of teachers," said Mr.Thavanathan.

A Sinhala pre-school teacher Ms Inoka Jayasekara speaking in Sinhala said
she was happy to attend this event where all three communities assembled.
This gives hope that the current peace process could be taken forward in a
healthy atmosphere, she stressed. She thanked the TRO for taking this bold step to organize such an event. A Muslim pre-school teacher Ms Ziana Begum said that she was glad to attend
this event with friends in other two communities. A Tamil pre-school
teacher Ms Benjamin also spoke. TRO Trincomalee district director Mr.K.Mathavarajah said the TRO had taken
several steps to develop pre-schools in the district. TRO Trincomalee officials honored all pre school teachers present at the
occasion by garlanding them.
