The North East Provincial Department of Education held the first provincial level Science-Mathematics Quiz Competition for Grade 11 year students who have excelled in zonal level competitions. The winners of twenty-four zonal level competitions participated at the provincial level competition held Wednesday in Trincomalee Sri Shanmuga Hindu Ladies College hall, sources said.

Provincial Education Ministry Secretary Mr.R.Thiagalingam, participating as the chief guest, said the standard of science and mathematics education in the northeast province has gone down considerably due to shortage of teachers for these subjects. This unhealthy trend should be arrested without delay with proper planning.

The NE Education Ministry is working with an objective of creating a new generation of students with correct skill, he added.

Deputy Director of Education Ms. S.Vethanayagam made the welcome address. Provincial Director of Education Mr.S.Mahalingam also attended the event.
