LTTE activist released on surety bail

The Point Pedro Magistrate Wednesday released an activist of the Sea Tigers (of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) in the Vadamaradchi division, Mr. Gamini, on surety bail when a woman witness failed to identify him as the person who attempted to abduct a private vehicle on the day of the incident, legal sources said.
Mr. Gamini was arrested by the police and later remanded by the Magistrate on a report filed in courts that the suspect had attempted to remove a vehicle belonging to an individual in the Vallipuram area, sources said. Mr. Gamini was produced in Point Pedro courts Wednesday and was subjected to an identification parade. The Magistrate released Mr. Gamini on surety bail when the wife of the vehicle owner failed to identify him as the person who attempted to abduct the vehicle, legal sources said. The Magistrate ordered that two persons who are permanent residents of the area should stand surety for the suspect in a sum of Rupees 25,000, legal sources said
