NECORD to provide more funds for NE development

Community Organization for Restoration Development (NECORD), Mr.T.Lankaneson, addressing a gathering at the opening of a new two-storey building at the Jeyanthipura Sinhala Vidiyalaym in the Kanthalai education zone in the Trincomalee district, Monday evening, said that NECORD
would spend more money next year for the development of education in rural and difficult areas in the northeastern province.
"NECORD has upto now spent nearly four thousand million rupees for the development of war ravaged province. It would be increased to nearly nine thousand million rupees next year," he said. The Government Agent of the Trincomalee district, Mr. Gamini Rodrigo, and the GTZ-NECORD Trincomalee team leader, Mr.Ingo Guhr, jointly declared open the new two-storey building. Mr. Rodrigo thereafter unveiled the plaque of the building. The construction of the new building
included urinals and latrines to provide accommodation for five class
rooms, administration room, staff room, musical room and sanitary
facilities to provide better teaching and learning activities constructed
at a cost of nearly 4.005 million rupees.

settlement under the state aided colonization scheme in the Kantalai
divisional secretariat division. About seven hundred families, majority of
them from the major community, are living in Jeyanthipura and its
surrounding villages. There are about five hundred students studying in the
school. Three classes had been functioning in a temporary shed and one
class was functioning under a tree, sources said. According to a survey conducted by the education authorities most of the
poor children in the village do not attend classes due to lack of
accommodation in the school, sources said. GTZ-NECORD Trincomalee tem leader Mr. Guhr and NECORD Deputy Project
Director Mr.R., Umakanthan also spoke. Education officials also attended
the school.
