TamilNet releases relevant parts of GA's speech in audio
Colombo hasn't spent a cent on Jaffna - GA
[TamilNet, Sunday, 04 January 2004, 06:29 GMT]
TamilNet publishes the relevant parts of the speech by Government Agent of Jaffna at a meeting in Chavakachcheri on 27 December 2003 where he asserted that the Sri Lankan government “did not spend a red cent” on rehabilitation in the northern peninsula in the last two years. TamilNet is publishing the audio file of the GA’s speech on account of the seriousness of the allegations he had to make against TamilNet on ‘advice of Sri Lanka’s Minister for Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Refugees’. The statement in question can be indubitably verified from the audio files we have published today.
TamilNet regrets any inconvenience it may cause the GA, Mr. S. Pathmanathan, in his position as a Sri Lankan government official by publishing the recording of the speech he made in Chavakachcheri on 27 December. We also regret to note that Sri Lanka’s Minister for Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Refugees should have rushed to persuade the Jaffna GA not only to retract the truth about rehabilitation in the northern peninsula that Mr. Pathmanathan had frankly stated at the meeting in Chavakachcheri but also to cast gross aspersions on the veracity and credibility of TamilNet reports. TamilNet is an independent news organisation reporting to the world on Tamil affairs on the firm basis of indubitably verifiable facts. We wish to reiterate that we do not hesitate to carry corrections if mistakes occur by oversight or due to unavoidable circumstances on the ground. TamilNet will provide the full speech of the Jaffna GA on request.
