Chandrasekaran briefs TNA leaders on alliance[TamilNet, Tuesday, 10 February 2004, 18:24 GMT]Leaders of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) held extensive discussion Tuesday to map out their election strategy to contest the forthcoming general election. The discussion commenced at about 5 p.m. at the Colombo headquarters of the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF), and was concluded at 10 p.m with a decision to meet again on Wednesday evening to finalize electoral arrangements, TNA sources said. Upcountry People's Front (UPF) leader and Minister in the United National Front (UNF) government, Mr.P.Chandrasekaram, at one stage participated in the discussion and briefed the TNA leaders of his stand that all Tamil political parties in the Northeast and the hill country should form a grand election alliance to enhance the parliamentary strength of Tamils, sources said. TULF Secretary General and the TNA parliamentary group leader, Mr.R.Sampanthan, presided. The All Ceylon Congress (ACTC) was represented by its Secretary General Mr.Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, and senior vice president Mr. Nalliah Kumarakuruparan. The Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO) was represented by its leaders Mr.Selvam Adaikalanathan and Mr. N.Sri Kantha, and the Eelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF) was represented by its Secretary General Mr.Suresh Premachchandran. Several leading members of the TNA constituent political parties also participated in the discussion, sources said.
