Caste clashes on the increase in Jaffna

Twenty persons who were arrested by the Sri Lankan Police on Thursday for their alleged involvement in a clash between two caste groups in the Vaddukkoddai area in Jaffna were produced before the Jaffna judge today.

Fourteen persons, including some women and children, were injured in this major caste conflict said sources in Jaffna.

They said that caste clashes have erupted in Jaffna for the first time in many years.

Six persons were wounded in February in Irupalai in a fight between two caste groups. And in January, a major caste clash was reported at Chavakkaadu in Anaikkottai.
