Grenade attack on EPDP in Kalmunai

An Eelam People Democratic Party (EPDP) candidate contesting the General Election in the eastern province was injured in a grenade attack in Kulmunai Thursday afternoon, police said.

The candidate Mr.Thurairaja Lal contesting in Ampara District was distributing hand bills with his supporters in Kalmunai area when he was attacked.

The van in which he was travelling was also badly damaged. Police said they are carrying out investigations. EPDP in Kalmunai blamed the LTTE for the attack.

This is the second attack on a EPDP member in the east this week. On Monday an EPDP activist was shot dead in Batticaloa.
