Batticaloa polling, high in Muslim areas, low in Tamil areas

Brisk polling is reported in Muslim areas such as Kattankudy, Oddamavadi and Eravur in Batticaloa district and low polling in Tamil areas till one p.m. Friday, Batticaloa District Returning Officer Mr.S.Punnyamoorthy said
Polling in clustered polling stations that are located at Vavunatheivu for the uncleared voters has been considerable low. Some voters who came to Vavunatheivu clustered polling stations were not allowed to cast their voters as they failed to produce their polling cards to election officials, election department sources said. About eighty percent polling has been reported in some polling stations located in Muslim areas, election sources said. Batticaloa District Assistant Commissioner of Elections Mr.T.Krishanandalingam said he has sent new ballot box to a polling station located in Kattankudy area on receipt of information the available ballot box had been full with votes. Meanwhile monitors of the European Union Election Observation Mission and PAFFREL visited several polling stations including clustered ones located in Vavunativu for uncleared areas voters in Batticaloa district, sources said.
