US Congress team arrives in Colombo

A bipartisan delegation from the House of Representatives of the United States of America arrived in Colombo Sunday and held discussions with Sri Lanka's new Prime Minister, Mr.Mahinda Rajapakse, Sri Lankan government sources said.
The discussion centred on strengthening the co-operation between the two countries in the economic sphere. The U.S. delegation commended the general elections held on April 2 in the country as fair and free compared to the elections of the past, sources said. Members of the bipartisan US Congress team included David Dreier, a Republican of California and Chairman of the House Rules Committee, Karen McCarthy, a Democrat from Missouri and a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and Grace F.Napolitano, a Democrat from California and a member of the House International Relations Committee, sources said.
