SLMM head meets Trinco SLN, SLA Commanders

Major General (retd) Trond Furuhovde Saturday paid a visit to Trincomalee to assess the ground situation in the east port district following recent military operation by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) ousting its renegade commander from the eastern region, sources said. He met with Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) commanders during his visit, according to security sources.
Major General Trond Furuhovde met with the General Officer Commanding of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Major General Sunil Tennekon at the latter's headquarters, which is located in Plantain Point, Orr's Hill in Trincomalee
town, sources said. Both discussed in detail all aspects of implementing the ceasefire agreement, which is in operation since February 22, 2002, sources said. Later Major General Trond Furuhovde held discussion with top commanders of
the Sri Lanka Navy in Trincomalee and discussed problems confronting monitoring in sea according to ceasefire agreement, SLMM sources said. Major General Trond Furuhovde left Trincomalee after having a luncheon
discussion with his monitors based in Trincomalee, sources said. He did not meet LTTE local leaders as they were away in Muttur east, SLMM sources said.
