EPDP activist remanded in Kayts murder incident

The Kayts Magistrate, Mr. A.Premashankar, Saturday remanded Mr. Thirugnanam Sivakumar alias Velu, a key member of the paramilitary Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP), till May 1st, in connection with the murder last year of a young woman, legal sources said Monday.
The Kayts Police arrested the suspect during the weekend when he was moving around the EPDP headquarters in the Jaffna town and produced him in the Kayts Magistrate’s court Saturday, the sources said. The Police told the court that the suspect was wanted in connection with the murder of Ms. T Jagath Jennie (24), a Samurdhi (Poverty Alleviation) officer working in the Kayts division. The woman was murdered on May 2 last year, police said. The suspect is the former Kankesanthurai organizer of the EPDP, sources said.
