Suspects in Analaitivu EPDP camp fire allowed bail

The Kayts Magistrate, Mr.A.Premashankar, Thursday released 22 residents of Analaitivu in the Jaffna district, arrested by the police in connection with the torching of a camp of the paramilitary Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) in the village on April 11th, on cash bail with two sureties, legal sources said.
Thirteen suspects who were remanded last week were produced in the Magistrate’s court Thursday and nine others surrendered through their lawyers, Messrs Mr.Srikantha and N.Raviraj, the same day. All the 22 were released on cash bail of 2,000 rupees each with two sureties in a bond of five thousand rupees, legal sources said. The Magistrate further ordered the suspects to appear every Friday in the magistrate’s court. Further inquiry was put off for May 24th. Meanwhile, Jaffna district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarians, Messrs Mr.M.K.Sivajilingam, A.Gajendran, M.K.Eelaventhan and Ms Padmini Sithamparanathan, were present in court when the suspects were produced. Later, they held discussions with the released civilians of Analaitivu, sources said.
