3 SLA soldiers charged in December shooting incident

Police has filed papers in Jaffna District Courts against three Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers, Nagoda Witharna, Ranjith Samarakoon and Sunil Rohana for attempted murder of a newspaper vendor in Jaffna bus stand on December 9 of last year, local media reported.

Judge Ms.Srinithi Nanthikesan who took up the case postponed the hearing to 12th of May, reports said.

Sri Lanka army soldiers opened fire on a paper seller in around 5.45 pm on that day in December 2003 following an argument between a person who was selling 'Eelanatham' newspaper near the sentry point and the soldier who had ordered the paper seller to leave place.

Eelanatham is a Tamil daily newspaper published from Kilinochchi.
