Police post attacked

The Liberation Tigers attacked a police post last night around 11.30 p.m in Kudapokunai in Welikanda, northwest of Batticaloa on the Polannaruwa Batticaloa district border. One policeman was killed in the attack, accoring to initial reports.

72 policemen were at the Kudapokunai policepost when it came under attack last night. However, they had fled in the initial phase of the attack, said sources.

The policemen made a tactical withdrawal, said police sources in Welikanda.

The Tigers burnt down the policepost after removing some weapons, including a 60 mm mortar 2 T-56 assault rifles, and other equipment, according to initial reports.

The LTTE has repeatedly attacked the police and army detachments and patrols in this border area.
