Public to pay last respects to Nadesan in Kilinochchi, Jaffna

The remains of the assassinated Tamil journalist, Mr. Aiyathurai Nadesan, will be kept at the Kilinochchi Cultural Hall Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. and in Jaffna at the Veerasingham Hall on Thursday morning for the public to pay last respects before being cremated in Nelliyady in the Vadamaradchi division of Jaffna district Thursday evening, media sources in Jaffna said.

The Tamil National Alliance Batticaloa district parliamentarians, Messrs. S.Jeyananadamoorthy and P.Ariyanethran, both of whom were journalists till being elected to parliament in April 2 poll, paid their respects to the remains of Mr.Nadesan at his Lake Road residence in Batticaloa Monday evening.

Mr. Indrakumar Prasanna, Secretary General of the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO) also paid his last respects. The LTTE's Batticaloa town political head, Mr.Senathiraja paid his last respects and draped the body of Mr.Nadesan with Tamil Eelam national flag, sources said.

The hearse carrying the remains of Mr.Nadesan, which left Batticaloa Monday evening, arrived in Vavuniya Tuesday evening around four p.m., where the LTTE Deputy Political Head, Mr.S.Thangan, and Vavuniya District Political Head, Mr. Gnanavel, took charge of the casket. Thereafter the casket was taken to Irambaikulam Maha Vidiyalayam in Vavuniya where large number of people paid their last respects to Mr.Nadesan.

The hearse left Vavuniya by about 7 p.m. to Kilinochchi. The remains will be kept at the Kilinochchi Cultural Hall from 10 a.m. on Wednesday for public to pay their last respects. The Vanni media association has made arrangement in this regard, media sources said.

The hearse will pass through Kodikamam, Chavakachcheri and Kayts Wednesday evening. Later on the same day the remains will be kept in Jaffna Veerasingham Hall for the people of Jaffna town to pay their last respects.

From there it will be taken to Manipay, Achchuveli and finally to Nelliyady, the hometown of Mr. Nadesan. It will be kept at the Nelliyady Madhya Maha Vidiyalayam for the public to pay their last respects and there after it will be taken to his residence in Vathiri in Nelliady. The cremation will take place Thursday evening, media sources in Jaffna said.
