Non-academic staff of the Jaffna University Monday struck work putting forward seven demands, which crippled the administration of the institution. However, the academic work has not been affected due to the strike, university sources said.
The demands included the payment of arrears with the salary and to stop privatizing works now being performed by non-academic staff, trade union sources said. Employees connected with water supply and security did not join the strike. But trade union sources said that they would also join the strike in the coming days. Trade union sources said that non-academic staff of the university launched this strike as the authorities concerned had failed to look into their grievances though they held token strikes in past.
