A foot-patrol party of the Sri Lanka Police Friday early morning recovered a suicide jacket and some explosives concealed in a bag near Grandpass area in the heart of Colombo city. The army bomb disposal squad rushed to the site and deactivitated the explosives, which included claymore mines, police sources said.
The police with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Army immediately launched a cordon and search operation in the vicinity following information that some residents noted suspicious movements of two unidentified persons in the area before the recovery of suicide jacket, sources said. The police took about thirty persons into custody during the search operation for questioning. They were being detained in the police station for further questioning, police sources said.
