Search operation in Jaffna

The Sri Lankan army cordoned off and searched a large area in Jaffna comprising Manippai, Aanaikkoddai, Koolavady and Navaaly from the early hours of the morning today. The operation was on until 2 p.m. this afternoon.

Hundreds of people were herded to a school in Manippai for screening.

Residents of the area who were released in the afternoon said that the army had four 'hoods' (spotters whose faces are covered with masks or cloth) in the school to identify Tigers or their sympathisers among the hundreds of civilians who were brought here from morning for screening and interrogation.
