LTTE, Muslims meet in Muttur

Representatives of the Liberation Tigers and Muttur Muslim community in Trincomalee met at the offices of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission in Muttur Sunday, BBC Tamil service reported. This is the first meeting between the two parties in four months.
Trincomalee district LTTE Head of Political Wing Elilan, Muttur region LTTE Head of Political section Thangan, Muttur region Head of LTTE military wing Kunjan and Kabil Master participated in the meeting on behalf of the LTTE. Moulavi Abdul Karim and members of the Muttur Majlis Al Shura Council represented the Muttur Muslim community in the discusssions. The meeting was conducted in a cordial atmosphere and the participants resolved to take steps to prevent future conflicts between the Muslim and Tamil communities in Muttur, and if issues do arise then both parties will make every effort to reach an amicable settlement thorough discussions, the report said. Meanwhile, a member of the LTTE police corps, Vaseekaran, who was arrested Saturday by the Sri Lanka Army at the Mahindapura check point was handed over to the representatives of the SLMM at the Serunuwara Police station today. SLMM officials said that they have handed over Vaseekaran to the LTTE Trincomalee district Political Head Elilan.
