Prelate to boycott events attended by Ministers, MPs

The Most Venerable Udugama Buddharakita, Mahanayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter Sunday said that he has decided to boycott functions attended by Sri Lanka Government Ministers and parliamentarians as a protest to their unruly conduct in the parliament recently. He made this announcement when a senior
leader and former minister of the then United National Front (UNF)
government Professor G.L.Peiris paid his homage to the prelate, sources said.
The prelate further said members of Maha Sangha should discharge their duties impartially. They should point out mistakes made by rulers without fear or favour. Members of Maha Sangha should give their blessing to the rulers when their service benefits the people. Maha Sangha should not take sides, prelate stressed. Maha Sangha members should not convert Buddhist shrines into political offices, the prelate stressed, media sources said.
